Marea de Leyda  in our project on the Leyda Valley, an exciting emerging region for growing the premium white varieties Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir.

Leyda, although 'red-hot' in terms of potential, benefits from the tempering effect of the Pacific Ocean making it a genuinely cool climate region.  The Maipo river which flows through it brings large volumes of snow-melt water for irrigation, without which Leyda is too dry to grow crops.

LFE's Marea de Leyda estate, whose vineyards are currently the closest to the sea in Leyda Valley, is planted predominantly to Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, with smaller plots of Chardonnay and Syrah.

The first Marea de Leyda wines are an extremely encouraging start to this pioneering project – they will be officially released onto the market in late 2010.
