Our whole ethos of Elevating Quality is embodied nowhere better than in the new vineyards planted at up to 900 meters in the mountain ridges that surround our home – the LFE900 project.
The highest commercial vineyards in Colchagua, LFE900 is a patchwork of grape varieties, rootstocks, soil types and microclimates - a truly unique set of conditions for growing grapes of “Grand Cru” quality in Chile.
Planted in 2005, the LFE900 mountain vineyards have already begun to show their potential. The Doña Bernarda 2006 blend, made mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon with added Syrah, Carmenère and Petit Verdot includes 15% of the initial 2007 mountain vintage. It won the Trophy for Best Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon in London’s International Wine Challenge 2009 and the Cabernet Sauvignon Trophy in the same year in Austria’s International Wine Challenge together with 4 other international Gold Medals. This is the biggest medal tally ever for any wine from Luis Felipe Edwards, and remember that these are very young vines, so we have high hopes the best is still to come.
