Reception

We hand pick most of our grapes because of the gradient and height of our vineyards.

White grapes are usually picked in February and March while the reds are picked from late March to May.  Grapes are picked and transported in the cooler late afternoons and early evenings to prevent over exposure to the sun. The bunches are then destemmed, crushed and fermented at the Colchagua Winery.

Bottling & Filling

The winery is equipped with the very latest German, Italian and French equipment to ensure that Luis Felipe Edwards wines are consistently produced to the highest international quality standards. This includes state-of-the-art bottling and labelling machines, high technology pumps, filters, pneumatic presses and cooling and heating equipment.

As a certified company LFEWINES have ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BRC and IFS certifications.

All Luis Felipe Edwards winemaking and bottling processes are environmentally friendly.

Only newly-manufactured bottles are used.  They are rinsed with sterilised water before filling.  After filling a small amount of carbon dioxide or nitrogen is injected into the top of the bottle to help displace any oxygen. Bottles are then transported either to a corking machine for sealing or to a separate screw cap bottling line. The corking machines first suck any air out of the bottle in order to remove oxygen, which can adversely the quality of the wine. The bottling lines also incorporate a fill height detector which rejects under- or over-filled bottles.

Packing

After the bottles have been filled, they pass through a labelling machine where self-adhesive labels are applied. They are then packed into cartons and warehoused in a temperature controlled environment, ready for shipping to one of our 50 export destinations.
