In 2005 Luis Felipe Edwards acquired a farm composed of arid pasture lands 8 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean in the up-and-coming Leyda Valley.  This distinctly cool maritime region, on a similar latitude to New Zealand’s Marlborough region and with a similar climate, is rapidly gaining plaudits worldwide for the quality of its Sauvignon Blancs and Pinot Noirs.

Plantings began with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay in 2006 and were completed in 2009 with the addition of Pinot Noir and Syrah.  Once again, major engineering works were required to turn this arid land into fertile vineyards with irrigation water pumped up from the Maipo River some 2 kilometres away.

A new range of LFE wines will be launched this year under the Marea de Leyda brand name.
