Luis Felipe Edwards has specially commissioned exclusive new images of the LFE vineyards and surrounding areas for the release of the first LFE newsletter. Luis Felipe brings us the most up to date images of the visionary Hilltop project. The Hilltop project has seen varietals planted at considerably higher altitudes of between 800 and 1000 metres above sea level. Luis Felipe Edwards commented “In our quest to further improve quality we have invested a great deal into the unique Hilltop project. Here the main focus is on viticulture, and although still very newly-planted it is already producing great examples of many varietals including Syrah, Petit Verdot and Malbec”. Other exclusive images include the recently completed state-of-the-art bottling plant and the beautiful Mediterranean-style gardens adjoining the organic Rosa Blanca vineyards, more of which can be seen in our next newsletter.
“The new Leyda Sauvignon Blanc 2009 is looking outstanding now that all the fruit is grown exclusively on Luis Felipe Edwards’ own vineyards only 8 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean. Leydaís cool coastal influences are helping us produce some outstanding quality Sauvignon Blanc grapes.” says Nicolas Bizzarri LFE’s Chief Winemaker. “The climate here is very similar to Blenheim in New Zealand, so we have extremely high hopes for the future.” This new wine will be released in the UK in September.
The UK Chilean Trade Tasting in London on September 9th will be an exciting time for the entire Luis Felipe Edwards range, showcasing the first releases from the Hilltop project and the launch of the first Pinot Noir from our own Leyda vineyards. A new Late Harvest Viognier-Sauvignon Blanc will also be unveiled alongside new vintage releases of the rest of the existing range.
The new packaging plant is proving to be an immense success for both quality and customer service. Nicolas Bizzari explains “The new bottling line, which uses state-of-the-art equipment imported from Italy, is a dream. Housed in a purpose-built modern building this faster and much more technologically advanced bottling line means orders can be bottled to an even higher standard than before and despatched that much faster. We care a lot about the quality of our wines through every single process from vineyard to bottle and this machine will further improve both their quality and their ageing potential. To avoid unwanted oxidation, especially in our white wines, it is absolutely essential that the wine comes into contact with as little oxygen as possible during the bottling process. This new line is equipped with technology that removes all the oxygen from the empty bottles: an injection of inert nitrogen first displaces all the air in the bottle before filling it with wine, keeping the bottled wines amazingly fresh for much longer. The level of automation in the new bottling plant has also brought with it considerable benefits for worker safety and overall productivity ñ reported safety incidents are down and orders can be prepared in half the time by the same number of people.”
Two new wines - Luis Felipe Edwards Late Harvest Viognier Sauvignon Blanc 2006 and the organic Rosa Blanca Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 ñ will shortly be launched in the USA. Chilean wine is proving extremely popular with wine lovers in North America.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine recently rated Seleccion de Familia Gran Reserva Sauvignon Blanc 2008 from the Leyda Valley a whopping 88 points.
The Luis Felipe Edwards website is enjoying new levels of interest with members signing up to receive the newsletter from all over the world. The site is gaining recognition via word of mouth and email recommendations due to the stunning photography and iconic images of the people of Chile.
