Elevating Quality is our company message to the world. Our wines are of the highest quality and this demonstrates the importance we place on our customers.
''We are a strong family with very strong family
values, and this translates into our wines."
Luis Felipe Edwards Sr.
Our commitment to elevating quality is amply demonstrated by the LFE900 mountain top plantings at Puquillay. Higher altitude means better quality grapes: the cooling effect allows the grapes to ripen more slowly and concentrates their flavours and aromas.
130 hectares of vines were planted at altitudes up to 900 metres at Puquillay - the highest plantings in the Colchagua Valley. The vineyard sites were first carefully selected and split into 120 individual plots or "microterroir units" using infrared imaging and differential Global Position System (DGPS) technology combined with soil electrical conductivity and NDVI vigor index. Each plot was then matched to a combination of cultivars, clones and rootstocks in order to produce the highest quality grapes possible.
Another way we aim to raise quality is by lowering grape yields per hectare. Luis Felipe Edwards has one of the lowest average yields in Chile of just 9 tonnes per hectare across all our estates, and as low as 4 tonnes per hectare from our LFE900 mountain vineyard sites.
All of the above represents a huge investment in the long term quality of our wines.
''This is just the start of a very long journey.
It takes time to build real quality - fortunately we
don't answer to shareholders, just to our customers!"
Luis Felipe Edwards Jr.
